PRAYER / Lenten Reflection 2005

Monday, February 21, 2005

"Be merciful as your Father is merciful. Stop judging and you will not be judged."

How many times have we heard this admonition? Probably first from our parents and now we hear it often in the gospels. It is hard not to judge anotherís actions and yet we give ourselves a lot of leeway. Sometimes we are distracted by something someone else is doing and it brings us up short on our own short comings. Jesus asked God to forgive those who crucified him "for they know not what they do." Can I give someone the benefit of the doubt? I don't know what they have been through.

When someone doesn't live up to my expectations do I react? Or do I respond with a helpful hand and a prayer?
