PRAYER / Lenten Reflection 2005
Thursday, February 24, 2005
Today’s reading from Jeremiah: "Blessed is the person who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is in the Lord. That person is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream."
I have friends who are trapeze artists and I sometimes watch them practice. The operable word is practice. They trust each other implicitly. The artist flies through the air and connects with the catcher. They have practiced this for many years and they are in sync. I have never seen them fall and they say that they have never had an accident. They trust each other and they trust God. This is a powerful image for me. As they practice their art I am reminded that I must practice the art of praying always and trust in the goodness of an all-loving God who will not let me fall.
Have I been practicing prayer? How can I spend more time in this practice today?
