PRAYER / Lenten Reflection 2005

Thursday, March 17, 2005

Although Abraham links our two readings, knowing God is an important gospel call. We pray not to get stuff from God but to know God, to be in relationship, to be deepened in union. Jesus tells his accusers that they do not know God, but he knows God. Knowing in Hebrew has less to do with head and more with heart; it means intimate union. "I do know God and keep God’s word," Jesus asserts.

How much do you long for intimacy and union with God? Share any hesitations with Jesus. He will not judge you.

Open us to long for deeper union with you, God. Open us to be united with all your people, the very Body of Christ.
