PRAYER / Lenten Reflection 2005

Tuesday, March 22, 2005

Judas keeps the purse. How Jesus must have trusted him. Now at his last supper, Jesus "was troubled in spirit" about his betrayal. When Judas left the room, after Jesus gave him a piece of bread, the others thought it was to give money to the poor. "It was night." The light is about to be quenched; the powers of darkness seem to triumph. Jesusí heart first turns to the glory of God, and then he affectionately calls his friends, "Little children" as he tells them the hour is here.

Ask the Spirit to show you how Jesus trusts you. Trust between friends is meant to be mutual. We may have to wrench ourselves open to receive his trust -- it seems so intimate.

Free us, Jesus. Help us to open ourselves to ever deeper intimacy with you day by day.
