PRAYER / Lenten Reflection 2005

Good Friday, March 25, 2005

Another providential coincidence! Today we usually celebrate the feast of Annunciation, the beginning of the Incarnation. Good Friday concludes the life-long process of Incarnation, of Godís expressing Godís own faithful love in the flesh of Jesus. On Good Friday, he who has been growing in wisdom and grace, looks depleted, covered with spit and blood. Yet according to John, as his mission is "completed", he is exalted in glory. He is lifted up, exalted on the cross. This is paradox, this triumph of failure.

Where in your life has failure turned to triumph, sorrow to joy, dying to life, new life? How has God been taking flesh and continuing the Incarnation in you? Stay with those memories.

Thank you, Jesus, for your labor pains on the cross, for giving us new birth, new life. We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you because you are the Savior of the world!
